Columbus vs LAFC in Leagues Cup Final
Wilfried Nancy has the opportunity to secure a second title as the Crew's coach even before completing his second season with the club.
After guiding Columbus to victory in the 2023 MLS Cup final during his first season, Nancy led the team to its inaugural appearance in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final, where they were defeated 3-0 by CF Pachuca. Now, less than three months later, the Crew are back in contention for another title, having reached the Leagues Cup final.
In a rematch of last December's MLS Cup final, the Crew are taking on Los Angeles for the Leagues Cup title at Lower.com Field. Columbus secured a 2-1 victory over LAFC with goals from striker Cucho Hernandez and midfielder Yaw Yeboah.
Crew forward Christian Ramirez doesn't anticipate much of a pep talk from Nancy before the final. However, having recently experienced both victory and defeat in championship games, Nancy has already shared some valuable advice with the team.
"He wants us to enjoy the game and play with joy," Ramirez said. "That's all we can do. We haven’t put any extra pressure on ourselves throughout this tournament, even though every match has been an elimination game. So, we just need to be ourselves, stay confident, respect our opponent, and give it our all."
